Questions and Comments

Question / Comment:

How much is my hydro bill going to go down? It is beyond ridiculous now.

Response:

If City Council decides to buy, sell or merge Guelph Hydro there could be a reduction in electricity distribution rates. The amount and duration of any rate changes would depend on the specific transaction being proposed.

In general, an average residential monthly bill is $147.79. Guelph Hydro keeps 20 per cent ($29.56) to cover the cost of distributing electricity here in our community. This part of the bill could be affected by changing the ownership structure of Guelph Hydro.

The rest of the bill ($118.23) is related to the amount of electricity you use. Guelph Hydro has limited control over the amount you pay to electricity generators, transmitters and provincial government agencies. Learn more about electricity prices from the Ontario Energy Board
