How long has Alectra been in electricity business and who owns it?


Alectra is a publicly-owned utility formed earlier this year with the merger of three local electrical utilities – Enersource, Horizon Utilities, PowerStream – and joint purchase of Hydro One Brampton. These progressive, low cost and innovative electricity distributors came together for a common goal – to be a single trusted ally in the rapidly changing world of energy. Their respective history is steeped in pioneering firsts, groundbreaking achievements and memorable milestones that will help guide to serve the energy needs of our customers for the future.

The cities of Barrie, Hamilton, Markham, Mississauga, St. Catharines, and Vaughan, through their respective holding companies, and Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System (OMERS) are joint owners of Alectra.
